Ranthambore National Park

Welcome to Ranthambore National Park, The Park is located in the Sawai Madhopur district of southeastern Rajasthan, which is about 130 km from Jaipur. Ranthambore National park dispersed widely over an area of 392 sq km. along with its nearby sanctuaries like - the Mansingh Sanctuary and the Kaila Devi Sanctuary. Ranthambore National Park came into its existence in 1973, when it was declared Tiger Project reserve by Indian Government. Earlier it was a hunting land of Maharajas. It is resting as sandwiched between two rivers, Banas River at North & Chambal River at South and it just 112 km’s from Kota & 161 Km’s from Jaipur. The vegetation of the Ranthambore is the tropical dry deciduous and tropical thorn type due to its hilly track; water is confined from narrow valleys and some lakes. The sanctuary is home to a wide variety of trees, plants, birds and reptiles, as well as one of the largest banyan trees in India. Being hypnotic Ranthambore drew in travelers from various part of Globe. The endangered species like leopard, nilgai, wild boar, sambar, striped hyena, sloth bear, southern plains gray langur,  along with rich flora and landscapes welcome travelers from November to May at utmost.

ATTRACTION

Ranthambore Fort – The imperial fort, built in the 10th century AD gives the panoramic view of entire Ranthambore national park. It stands 700 feet above the surrounding plain. Inside the fort, there are three red Karauli stone temples devoted to Lord Ganesha, Shiva and Ramlalaji. There is a Digamber Jain temple of Lord Sumatinath (5th Jain Tirthankar) and Lord Sambhavanath. The temples were constructed in the 12th and 13th centuries; this is the perfect place for bird watchers.

Being dry due to scanty rainfall it largely consists of dry deciduous forest, Dhok and Banyan trees are majorly grown in almost 75 % of the area. But still it supports large species of flora with the contribution of lakes, narrow valleys, gentle slopes, reservoirs etc. one can also come across to the most popular tree “Babul” which has a many medicinal properties and sometimes use to make tooth pastes.

According to the 2014 census of tigers, there were 62 tigers in Ranthambore National Park. Tiger, at the acme of the food chain, lord of the kingdom in a subtle way. Solitary by nature, it operates in the stealth but Ranthambore is famous for its diurnal tigers which are active in daytime also. Therefore tiger sightings, often as they are, are always a matter of chance. However even evidences of tiger's activities are very exciting. Other members belonging to cat family found in Ranthambore are Leopard, Caracal, Leopard cat, Fishing cat and Jungle cat.

Padam Talao: This is the largest of the many lakes located in the park. A red sandstone Jogi Mahal can be found at the edge of the lake. A mammoth banyan tree, considered to be India’s second largest, is also near the lake.

Rajbagh Talao: This is the most picturesque of the three lakes. The lake is circumvallated by the ruins of past. Yet, it owes some of its beauty to the animals that seem to always flock to its waters. It always has a large population of animals and birds feeding in it

Khandar Fort, Malik Talao, Bakaula, Kachida valley are other spots of Ranthambore which attracts tourers.

How To Reach?

Ranthambore can be reached by roads, rails & air. Jaipur is the nearest airport at 16 kms from park. Sawai madhopur is the nearest town which is well connected with major cities of Rajasthan but it is advisable to hire private cabs for your ease. Ranthambore National Park is around 10 km from Sawai Madhopur Railway Station, which lies on the Delhi to Mumbai trunk route.
