The beautiful town of Lansdowne is situated at an altitude of 1780 m above sea level. It is in the south of Pauri en route Kotdwar and is surrounded by thick oak and blue pine forests, offering great mountain views. It is a charming place for a quiet holiday as it is devoid of the usual hustle - bustle of other hill stations in Uttrakhand. Lansdowne was originally a popular hill station with the British.

Fascinated by its salubrious climate and natural beauty, Britishers established a cantonment here. It was founded by the, then Viceroy Lord Lansdowne in 1887 AD. Thus the place has been named after him. The famous Garhwal Rifles of the Indian Army has its command office here.

Adventure Activities: Lansdowne offers exciting opportunities for adventure activities like bird watching, trekking, rock climbing to name a few. Lansdowne is famous for being a birdwatcher paradise as one can spot many beautiful feathered birds.  

Nature Walks: The healthy and serene climate at Lansdowne surrounded by undulating verdant hills makes it an ideal place to go for long walks amidst lush greenery in the morning and evenings. 

Boating: Tourists can enjoy boating, paddling in the manmade lake named Bhulla Lake. Tourists also enjoy water activities at Kho River near Durga Devi Mandir which is located on the Kotdwar-Lansdowne Road.

How to Reach?

Air -The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport Dehradun, 152 km from Lansdowne. Indian Airlines and private carriers offer five flights per week from Delhi to Dehradun's Jolly Grant Airport. Lansdowne is 152 km away.
Rail -Trains to Lansdowne - Lansdowne is 41 km away from Kotdwar Railway Station. The nearest railway station is Kotdwar at a distance of 41 km situated an elevation of only 370 m. 
Two trains run from Delhi to Kotdwar (Mussoorie Express and Garhwal Express). Mussoorie Express is the best train to reach Kotdwar, the nearest railway station to Lansdowne. The train leaves Old Delhi station at 10.20 pm and reaches Kotdwar at around 6 am in the early morning. 
Road -Lansdowne is 250 km from Delhi, and 7-8 hrs drive away. It is situated en route Kotdwara - Pauri road, NH 119. One has to take a right turn from NH 119 at a place where Garhwal Rifles has put a huge signboard by paining the directions on rock. Lansdowne is 81 km from Pauri and about 250 km from Delhi.
Since Lansdowne is more than 1,500 m higher than Kotdwara, the drive from Kotdwara to Lansdowne is quite steep and scenic.

Bhulla Lake: One of the most favorite picnic spots among locals and tourists, Bhullalake is a well maintained calm lake made and maintained by Indian Army. Bhullalake is loved for it's peaceful atmosphere as it is not much populate and there are ample boating facilities available here.

Tip N Top: Tip N Top, also called as Tiffin top, it is a small hilltop viewpoint located 1.5 km from the main city of Garhwal. This is the best place to watch complete skyline, Shivalik range, and panoramic Garhwal hills with spellbound Himalayan range.

Darwan Singh Regimental Museum: Named after Victoria Cross holder Darwan Singh Negi, it is a historical defense museum set near the parade ground in Lansdowne. This beautifully decorated two storey building has a collection of arms, uniforms, rarest photographs of army generals, certificates and details about the origin and achievements of Garhwal Rifles.           

St. John's Church: Located at the Mall Road this Catholic Church was built in 1936. The beautiful interiors and green surroundings of the church fascinate tourists and make it a must visit destination.

BhimPakora: BhimPakora can be reached after a 2km trek downhill on a rugged trails and the place is quite surprising as there are two big stones one above the other in perfect balance and while the stone can be moved with a finger it never falls down.

TarkeshwarMahadev Temple: situated atop a hill at 2092 meters, TarkeshwarMahadev Temple is believed to be one of the ancient holy sites or SiddhaPitas dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Mahashivarathri festival draws a huge crowd from across the country.
