Lakshadweep - The smallest Union Territory of India,is one of the worlds most spectacular tropical island systems tucked away at 220-440Kms off the Kerala Coast having beauty of coral reef, sandy beaches, unpolluted and clear water and hospitable settings.
Lakshadweep, the group of 36 islands is known for magnificent beaches and lush green landscape, Lakshadweep means one hundred thousand islands in Sanskrit and it has few of the most beautiful and exotic beaches of India.
It has 4200 sq. km of lagoon rich in marine wealth which offers excellent potential for water sports like swimming, wind-surfing, diving, snorkelling and kayaking.
The islands, though all equally mystical and beautiful, each offers a unique blend of tourist spots. Some islands have been promoted for diving and water sports, still, others have been developed so that people enjoy the charm of relaxation and natural enjoyment.
Agatti Aerodrome at Agatti Island is the only airport in Lakshadweep. Air India Regional, a subsidiary of the state-owned carrier, serves Agatti and flies to Kochi on the mainland. The other islands are linked by the Pawan Hans helicopter or boat service. Six ships connect Kochi and Lakshadweep: MV Kavaratti, MV Aminidivi, MV Minicoy, MV Arabian Sea, MV Lakshadweep Sea and MV Bharath Seema.
Water sports activities such as scuba diving, wind surfing, snorkelling, surfing, kayaking, canoeing, water skiing, sport fishing, yachting and night-voyages into the sea are quite popular activities among tourists.
