The Golden Fort or Sonar Quila topically called so. It is a World Heritage Site and was built in 1156 AD. It is resting in amidst of Thar Desert of India with pride and Honor also it is the second largest fort in Rajasthan. The Fort is named after its founder Rao Jaisal, The Rajput ruler. It is an immingle of Rajput and Islamic architecture and surrounded by a beautiful city JAISALMER. The fort's massive yellow sandstone walls are a tawny lion colour during the day, fading to honey-gold as the sun sets, thereby masking the fort in the golden desert. Thus, it is also known as the Sonar Quila or Golden Fort. The Fort is ornate with four entrances Ganesh Pol, Rang Pol, Bhoota Pol and Hava Pol and magnificent edifices like Raj Mahal (Royal palace), Jain Temples, and Laxminath temple. The 1500 feet long and 750 feet wide fort is built on 250 ft high above the surroundings and give the panoramic view of entire jaisalmer city. The most famous awesome structures such as the Maharawals located in front of the Chauhata Square. The foremost attraction of this place is Maharawal’s marble throne which is placed over a flight of marble steps. An added famous tourist attraction of this place is a five-storied Tazia tower located head-to-head to the Maharawals palace. The Indian filmmaker Satyajit Ray was so impressed by this sight that he honored this sight by his detective film Sonar Quila based on this fort.
