Hawa Mahal - Jaipur

Jaipur most memorializing building with no foundation was built at the early 1799 and one more splendid example of Mughal and Rajput architecture, The Hawa Mahal is also known as “The Palace Of Breeze”, so named because it was essentially a high screen wall built so the women of the royal household could observe street festivals while unseen from the outside. The structure was built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, being restrained in nature and inspired by unique structure of Khetri Mahal and he built the grand and historical Hawa Mahal. It was designed by Lal Chand Ustad in the form of the crown of Krishna. The Palace is devoted to our God “Krishna”. The small carved fretwork windows were leant to over look the city's main market and central avenue. Along this boulevard royal progressions or religious ceremonies would pass within sight of the women hidden behind the beautiful lattice windows. In later years the rooms of the Palace of the Wind found favour with the Royal family of Jaipur, as the rooms were always substantially cooler than the main bulk of the City Palace due to the regular air flow through the windows.

Hawa Mahal is the extension of City Palace and it is linked with the imperial door. Hawa Mahal is a 5 storied building stands without foundation from many decades.

It is advisable that visit to Hawa Mahal should be done at early morning to see the golden reflection of Hawa Mahal by the influence of sunrays and feel cool breeze blowing inside through the great 953 windows. The Hawa Mahal is best viewed from outside the City Palace’s walls on the chaotic Badi Chaupad cross roads.
